COVID-19 Masjid Guidance – 16th March

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

WISE are carefully monitoring the ongoing situation concerning the Coronavirus and are following advice from our local critical care medical consultants.

We will be taking a phased response to the pandemic. Therefore, in addition to our previous guidance, we now strongly urge that all of the following not attend the Masjid at all:

  1. Anyone over 60 even if they are healthy
  2. People with pre-existing conditions such as heart problems (angina, previous heart attack), high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, asthma and other lung disease, even if they are under 60
  3. Those who live with people who fall in categories 1) & 2)
  4. Anyone under the age of 18

We would also reiterate that attendees make wudu before they come to the Masjid – the wudu area will be out of use from Tuesday (toilet area will still be operational). Please avoid shaking hands and hugging. Prayers will be shortened and the Masjid will be closed 10 minutes after prayer. Please pray your Sunnah prayers at home.

The situation is changing day by day – as is the advice from the experts – and we fully expect the numbers of people affected critically to rise exponentially in the coming days.

With that in mind we, as a community, need to prepare for a very real possibility that the Masjid may be closed altogether, which would mean the end of Jumu’ah and congregational prayers until the situation improves. This is of course a very difficult decision to make, but one that may well have to made in the interest of the welfare of our community and the well-being of our elders.

May Allah protect us all, and guide us to do only what pleases Him.
