Kind-hearted volunteers raise more than £1,000 for charity with mountain climb:

14 Novemember 1015:

A team of kind-hearted people from the Wycombe Islamic Society has raised more than £1,000 by climbing to the summit of Mount Snowdon.

Led by Raja Akbar, WISE Youth Co-ordinator, the group donated the funds to Wycombe Homeless Connection after they were "inspired by their amazing work". Mr Akbar said: "Charity is a very important pillar of the faith but a large proportion of it is directed overseas to support those in dire need. While we must continue support causes around the world there is a growing sense in the community that more must be done to support local causes.

The group is now looking forward to volunteering their time for the winter shelter run by WHC in conjunction with a number of churches. The cheque for £1064 was handed to trustee Dr Michael Bowker in High Wycombe town centre. WHC operations manager, James Boultbee, said: "This is a fantastic donation which means a lot to us. Wycombe Homeless Connection is hosted by Christian churches around town and was initially funded entirely from those sources. However we help anyone in need, regardless of faith status, and it's really great to bring our Muslim friends on board as fellow supporters. We share the common aim of wanting to help those in need."
