فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّمَاءُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا مُنظَرِينَ
Allāh says, talking about Pharaoh and his forces, “Neither heaven nor earth shed a tear for them, nor were they given any time.” (Q44:29)
Neither heaven nor earth wept for them because they worked no righteous deeds that would rise up to the heavens, neither had they any prayer to their credit directed to Allāh on earth.
The great Companion, ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbbās stated that the heaven has gateways for each believer through which their righteous deeds ascend, and when the believer passes away, that door is closed, and the heaven weeps. Moreover, he said, when the believer passes away, the place at which he would pray and make dhikr of Allāh feels his loss and also weeps.*
Both heaven and earth weep at the loss of Allāh’s friends, the true believers.**
May Allāh make us from amongst those servants at whose death the heavens and earth themselves weep.
